Located in the heart of the City Palace complex, the Diwan-e-Khas is a masterclass in Rajput-Mughal engineering. This open-air hall, characterized by its stunning marble pillars and red sandstone arches, served as the private court where the Maharaja met with his most trusted advisors and visiting dignitaries. Today, it stands as a symbol of royal opulence, housing some of the world’s most unique treasures.

🏺 The World Record Silver Vessels (Gangajelies)
The most famous attraction within the Diwan-e-Khas is the pair of enormous sterling silver vessels.
The Guinness World Record: They are officially recognized as the world’s largest sterling silver vessels.
Dimensions: Standing 1.6 meters tall and weighing 340 kg each, they have a capacity of 4,000 liters.
The History: Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II, a devout Hindu, had these made from 14,000 melted silver coins. He used them to carry holy Ganges water to London in 1901, refusing to drink English water during his journey for King Edward VII’s coronation.
🏛️ Architectural Highlights
The Hall: Built with marble-floored galleries and grand arches, the hall is illuminated by exquisite crystal chandeliers (revealed during festivals and night visits).
Mubarak Mahal Courtyard: The Diwan-e-Khas is located within this courtyard, which also features the “Palace of Welcome,” a beautiful fusion of Islamic, Rajput, and European styles.
Pritam Niwas Chowk: Just steps away, you can find the four famous gates (Peacock, Lotus, Rose, and Green Leheriya) representing the four seasons.
✨ Things to Do at City Palace

From Railway Station (4.5 km): Easily accessible via auto-rickshaw or e-rickshaw.
By Bus: Local buses stop at Badi Chopad, which is a 5-minute walk from the palace entrance.

🌙 The “Illuminated Heritage” Night Itinerary
06:00 PM | Stop 1: Jantar Mantar (The Observatory)
The Magic: Visit just before the light show starts. The massive stone instruments (like the 27-meter tall Samrat Yantra) cast dramatic shadows under the evening lights.
The Highlight: Light and Sound Show. This 45-minute show narrates the story of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II’s scientific brilliance and the birth of Jaipur.
Show Timings (Oct–Feb): 6:30 PM (English) | 7:30 PM (Hindi)
Show Timings (Mar–Apr): 7:00 PM (English) | 8:00 PM (Hindi)
Cost: Approx. ₹200 – ₹300 per person for the show.
07:15 PM | Stop 2: Diwan-e-Khas at City Palace
The Transition: It’s a 2-minute walk from Jantar Mantar to the City Palace gate.
The Experience: The “Museum at Night” tour is more exclusive. The Diwan-e-Khas (Private Audience Hall) is spectacularly lit, and the famous Silver Urns (Gangajelies) glow under focused spotlights.
Special Access: Night tickets often include access to parts of the palace that feel like a private walk-through without the daytime tourist rush.
Cost: ₹500 (Indian Adults) | ₹600 (Foreign Adults).
08:15 PM | Stop 3: Hawa Mahal (Photo Stop)
The View: Walk or take a 2-minute rickshaw ride to the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds). While you cannot enter at night, the facade is illuminated with thousands of lights, making the 953 windows look like a glowing honeycomb.
Best Angle: Head to one of the “Cafe Rooftops” (like Wind View Cafe or The Tattoo Cafe) across the street for a coffee and the perfect night photo.
09:00 PM | Stop 4: Dinner at a Heritage Haveli
Recommendation: The Verandah at Rambagh Palace or 1135 AD (if you’re willing to drive back toward Amer) for a royal dining experience. For something closer and more casual, The Tattoo Cafe offers great views.

💡 3 Insider Tips for Night Sightseeing
Skip the Queue: You can often book your “Museum at Night” tickets online on the official City Palace website to avoid the ticket window, which only opens at 6:30 PM.
Temperature Drop: Even in March or October, Jaipur’s open-air courtyards can get a bit chilly at night. Carry a light stole or jacket.
The “Pink Line” Metro: The Badi Chaupar Metro station is right next to the City Palace/Hawa Mahal area, making it very easy to get back to the modern part of Jaipur (Mansarovar/Civil Lines) after your tour.
